Featured Artist: Miles Pasick

Posted March 8th, 2011 in Uncategorized by admin

Today’s featured artist is Winnipeg-based visual artist, Miles Pasick.

Miles will be exhibiting his works at Cluster’s raucous finale, BLITZ! on Saturday, March 26th, 8pm in his studio at 318 Ross Ave.

In his own words:

“I am interested in visual language. My background in illustration has
influenced new and unusual ways to communicate. Looking back at my old
works, I see my progression, and even though they were contract
pieces, most have fond memories and experiences behind them. My work
has no medium boundaries; sometimes it’s paint, sometimes it’s pen,
sometimes it’s everything all at once. It don’t really have a “thing”,
I guess I like to keep it constantly moving forward, backward, and
sometime to the side. Wherever my ‘art-on’ takes me.”

“Under Troubled Waters”
Graphite on stonehenge paper, & Digital, 9 x 12″

“See No (evil)…”
Graphite on paper, 16 x 16″

“Red Balloon”
Acrylic on paper, 9.5″ x 9.5″

Cluster’s first featured artist of the day is local chamber choir  antiphony. Cluster will be featuring Antiphony in the first concert of the 2011 festival, “the inner owl”, taking place March 24th 2011 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. Antiphony will be performing a new work by Luke Nickel titled “Baiting an Owl”, with text by James Nickel. As well, Antiphony will be featured in a collaboration with Heidi Ugrin and Montreal-based chamber-ensemble Trio ’86 titled “the inner owl”, which remixes Nickel’s original work.

From their official website:

“Antiphony was founded in the fall of 2008 as a self-directed group of 10 singers.

Motivated by their shared passion for choral music and their desire to communicate that enthusiasm with audiences across Winnipeg, Antiphony performs from a diverse and exciting range of musical styles and genres.

Marge Koop, a local voice teacher and the artistic director of Up Front Productions, says, ‘Antiphony is a refreshing new vocal ensemble in the city. They have a clean sound and beautiful blend. The singers are expressive and play off each other to great effect. It is obvious that they love what they do. This group is not to be missed!’ “
